The transfer of standard and intermodal containers by means of ULS transfer vehicles forms an essential part of a demonstration project and field testing program for technological developments in intermodal traffic. The project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology, and its goal is to enable railway stations outside conurbations to offer attractive and economical transport facilities for intermodal traffic. For handling the operations, both manual and computer-aided methods will be provided. The system will include extensive facilities for information processing: from transport data collection through planning of operations to parameter setting for computer-aided execution of transfer operations.
