Microfractometallography Using the Scanning Electron Microscope - 1.

The first part of this paper deals with graphite in cast iron. Seven micrographs show graphite nodules in relation to the ferrite matrix in the fracture surface of impact test specimens. They indicate that the matrix underwent drastic deformation before fracture but the graphite was not deformed. The presence of small hexagonal structures is discussed.
