Where heavy-metal-containing pigments must be avoided, growing attention has been focused on organic colorants, especially in Europe. In the face of high melt temperatures, the boundary between organic pigments and dyes blurs, and products must be selected with great care. Migration-related problems are particularly troublesome. TGA screening procedures can be used to predict some aspects of migration behavior, as reported here for a series of dyes in polycarbonate and nylon.
