This study investigated reference fuels with cetane numbers of 35, 40, 44, 48, and 52. The logarithm of the ignition delay period is shown as a function of the reciprocal of the temperature in the combustion chamber at the instant of initial injection (the temperature was calculated from the indicator diagrams and air intake rate). On these coordinates, the relationships plot as straight lines, so that the activation energy is introduced as a characteristic of ignition efficiency. The principal physicochemical and service properties of the emulsions of water in diesel fuel are presented.
