Design and construction companies in France, Britain, FR Germany, Italy and Belgium have organized themselves to produce a European Fast Reactor to utility requirements. A First Consistent Design produced is described here and it is hoped construction will start in five years. The European Fast Reactor Utilities Group (EFRUG) was brought into existence with the intention of formulating a common requirement for a commercial reactor before a decision was taken on the siting of the new plant. A corresponding organization has now been set up among the nuclear design and construction companies which will produce the European reactor to EFRUG requirements. The companies involved are: Novatome, Interatom and Belgonucleaire (working together as INB), the National Nuclear Corporation (NNC) and Ansaldo.
