Measurements have been made of the total cross section for ionization of the K shell by bombarding thin foil targets with 100 kev electrons from an electrostatic accelerator. The atomic number of the targets ranged from 13 to 79. The cross sections were determined by normalization to the theoretical atomic-field bremsstrahlung cross sections. Two solid state detectors were used in this measurement: a high purity germanium detector and a lithium drifted silicon detector. Results from both detectors will be compared for some targets. The Z dependence of the cross section will also be compared with theoretical calculations.
