Discussion of long-time tests carried out under operating conditions on a single-spindle automatic machine. After a description of the test procedure and the tested materials, the test results and results of cutting force measurements are presented. Finally, the relationships between the cutting force and tool life, as well as the effects of manganous sulfide and cold working on steel machinability, are explained.
