Possibilities are shown of improvement of traditional steam power units with chamber combustion of coal dust first at the achieved level of parameters (24 MPa, 540/540 or 560/565°C) and then with increasing these parameters. Ways are considered of improving the scheme and equipment which ensure already at the first stage increasing the efficiency by 8-10%. It is noted that construction of new thermal power plants and reconstruction of old ones on the base of classical steam-turbine power units with improved technical and economical parameters is the most prepared and really feasible direction of the Russian coal thermal power engineering development.
