摘要
A theoretical study is conducted for far-field radiation patterns of laser light occurring from modal interference in the optical fiber. The radiation patterns of guided modes are shown for both step-index and graded-index profiles of the optical fiber. The average intensity distribution of far-field patterns is next calculated by assuming a Gaussian autocorrelation function of the refractive-index inhomogeneities and is shown as a function of the radial distance by varying the correlation length of index fluctuations for both types of graded-index and step-index profiles.
