The paper discusses selection, design and application of screw pumps where large quantities of liquid have to be moved at relatively low lift. Among the applications cited are in returning activated sludge, raw sewage lift stations, raw and effluent sewage plant lift stations, industrial product and waste handling, and others. This type of pump is available from 12 to 144 inches in diameter with flows ranging from 100 to 95,000 gpm and lifts from 6 to 35 feet. Construction of screws is with a single, double or triple helix flight.
