摘要：

The efficiency of storage of text, graphics, images and other type of information data and the subsequent retrieval methods of details from the massive archives are discussed. The use of microprocessors and specialized programs in online searching is considered. Relational database management systems are introduced. Various examples, like the Electronic Materials Information Systems (EMIS) and several other data banks are described to illustrate typical applications.
