摘要
This is a critical evaluation of the state of the art based on a literature review. The criterion used in the evaluation is resistance to thermal fatigue cracking, measured by the number of castings produced in a mold, or die, before failure. The materials used are rated, starting with the most resistant, in the following order: molybdenum (and alloys), tungsten or other refractory-metal alloys; copper and some alloys; spheroidal graphite cast iron; alloy steel castings (hot work steel and heat resisting steel castings); low alloy flake graphite cast iron; unalloyed steel castings; aluminum and alloys.
