This article reports the results of studies and industrial tests performed on the experimental prototype of a cylindrical inductor which had been designed and built at the Ural Polytechnic Institute for electromagnetic stirring of a copper-nickel alloy during its crystallization so as to reduce the waste during manufacture of finished products. Pipes of such an alloy are now produced by the conventional technology of twofold extrusion. Electromagnetic stirring during casting of ingots eliminates from the technological cycle one extrusion stage and the operations associated with it. The experimental batch of pipe blanks and pipes produced with electromagnetic stirring was tested mechanically, for flattening, expanding, and crimping. These tests have shown these pipes to be satisfactory.
