A series of new high-power low-pressure mercury vapor lamps is introduced. With electrical discharge powers in the region of 1 to 2 kw they emit the 254 nm line with an efficiency of about 30% and are thus sources of almost cold, monochromatic and, owing to the small dimensions of the discharge tube, very intense UV-C (bactericidal) radiation.
