Filament conductors with Nb//3Sn diffusion layers have been developed in a joint project undertaken by the development groups of Vacuumschmelze GmbH of Hanau and the research laboratories of Siemens AG, Erlangen. Using the solid matter diffusion process, filament conductors have been produced that consist of a large number of filaments (up to 3721). High current densities (up to I//e//f//f equals 1. 8 multiplied by (times) 10**5 A/cm**2 at 5 T and 4. 2 K) have been measured on these conductors. These filament conductors can be used for the construction of magnets with a flux density of 8 to 14 T.
