A measuring stand to determine the dynamic Young's modulus and the damping coefficient has been designed at the Department of Bulk Solids Handling and Storage of the Technical University of Twente. The properties of aramid belts of various designs were tested and, for comparison purposes, the properties of EP-type as well as steel cable (flexible-type) belts were also examined. The measuring results elucidate to some extent the effect of belt construction on the viscoelastic properties of conveyor belts under dynamic loads, and they may also be used for conveyor belt application calculations, in which the Kelvin solid model is used to represent the belt.
