The explosion of explosives and methane-air mixture produce a great deal of mechanical and thermal energy. The energy produced in both cases will be transmitted not only by flames, high temperature gas and particles but also by shock waves. The studies described in this paper are the investigations on the ignition of CH//4-air mixture using shock tube apparatus. The shock tube used in this experiment is a standard type. It consists of high pressure vessel, (whose diameter, length and thickness are 70 mm, 1 m and 7 mm, respectively), and low pressure vessel, (whose cross section, length and thickness are 40 multiplied by 40 mm, 4. 2 m and 2 mm, respectively). The partition diaphragm between both vessels is polyester film (0. 15 mm in thickness) which is being broken by pressure difference of both vessels. And thus shock waves are produced.
