摘要：
A survey is given of the largest computer systems in existence at scientific centers. Problems of creating computer systems for automation of research, as well as problems of combining these systems into networks, are analyzed. The architecture of an experimental system created by the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR is presented.
