DESIGN OF BAND-LIMITED SIGNAL WITH NO INTERSYMBOL INTERFERENCE-AN EXTENSION OF SAMPLING FUNCTION.

For peak-value detection with perfect timing, a waveform least subject to thermal noise is the optimum one. In order to obtain a signal waveform satisfying the above optimum condition, this paper considers a band-limited signal which has no intersymbol interference and which minimizes the squared ratio of signal energy to signal peak value. It is found that the desired signal has no intersymbol interference and maximizes the snr for peak-value detection. The spectra of the optimum signal thus obtained are, in general, piecewise flat.
