A new surge arrester, the non-linear resistor-type arrester Type AMM, having a rated lightning discharge current of 5 kA 8/20 mu s has been developed for medium-high-voltage systems with insulation ratings up to 24 kV. Besides the electrical properties of importance for a high protective capability, special value is attached to the mechanical properties necessary for long-term resistance to ambient conditions.
