A mathematical approach is offered to estimating flow and head for a given pump, and seven different types of pipe circuits: series resistance; parallel resistance; series resistance with fixed head; parallel resistance with fixed head, and with different fixed heads; two pipelines in series, with a side outlet; and series-parallel resistance with different fixed heads. It also tells how to specify the required head for a given flow.
