Steel wire, bunched or stranded into cord for the carcass and the belts of automotive tyres, is one of the most demanding applications of ferrous, steel wire. This paper discusses improved production and handling techniques together with effective quality control. The processes described include rod cleaning and coating, drawing, patenting, brass plating and manufacture of strand or cord.
