Mitsui and Toyo Semitsu Zohki have tested a prototype epicyclic reverse-reduction gear as part of the development of compact, lightweight transmissions of up to 11MW (15 000shp) capacity. The transmission can be installed within the lower hulls of semi-submerged catamarans.
