Optimization by consecutive criteria when selecting a source of power for pressure welding

A consideration is given to the problem of selection of efficient sources of heat when welding a wide variety of materials and shapes. To optimize the selection all the parameters affecting the process should be represented in a form of quantitative criteria which are either dimensionless or of the same dimensionality. Consecutive comparison of the criteria results in selection of the most suitable combination of welding procedure parameters. To welding techniques are compared, namely, glow discharge welding and high frequency one. The application of proposed optimization procedure reveals that glow discharge welding is preferred for the purpose considered.
