Corrosion on stainless-steel components is increasing as a result of temper colors. Tests related to the effects of yellow temper colors on the corrosion resistance of welded stainless steel have indicated that the resistance of the material to pitting corrosion drops as the intensity of the temper color rises. Backing gas with added hydrogen also exerted an exceptionally positive effect on the corrosion resistance. Damage may be attributed to temper colors, to irregularities during the production process or to structurally induced damage.
