The findings from laser weld tests performed with stainless steels and in combination with low-alloy steels and nickel-base materials were reported. The weld characteristics of similar welds of high-alloy steels corresponded with those of the base metal, a fact that led to the easy use of the benefits of laser beam welding for virtually all materials that were not subject to structural alteration. Only the austenites that showed high nickel contents were to be particularly monitored due to the risk of hot-cracking. It was determined that the combinations of austenitic steels and ni-based materials afforded welding without any problems. By using filler materials with austenitic-ferritic weld joints, perfect welds can be produced, meeting the demands on the weld properties, such as strength, freedom from cracking and corrosion resistance.
