Isocyanates are well established for use in the production of foams, elastomers, coatings, adhesives, and fibers. A new series of isocyanates is commercially available. The materials are 1,3-bis(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)benzene left bracket m-TMXDI right bracket , 1,4-bis(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)benzene left bracket p-TMXDI right bracket , 1-(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)-3-(1-methylethyenyl)benzene left bracket m-TMI right bracket , and 1-(1-isocyanato-1-methylethyl)-4-(1-methylethenyl)benzene left bracket p-TMI right bracket . Chemically these compounds contain the isopropylidene (CH)//2C less than group which separates the isocyanate function from the aromatic ring. Liquid density, viscosity, specific heat, and vapor pressure data are reported for a new class of mono- and diisocyanates.
