Computers of varying sizes are now being used by engineers either as a part of the product being designed or as an aid to the design task. This requires communication with the computer, and various methods have been developed to ease the user's lot. This series of articles describes some of the aids which have been developed for calculation and programming, but excluding computer-aided design. The first article described computer codes; this second part explains how communication aids which are more readily understood have been developed.
