An unusual method of construction has been invented in order to build large span shell structures out of reinforced concrete more economically and in a much shorter period of time than conventional methods. According to this method, a large span, single curvature shell structure is subdivided in the longitudinal direction into equal sections. Each section is cast on the ground in horizontal position. After curing the concrete the section is tilted, by means of a series of computer controlled winches and special hinges, to the actual vertical position.
