Daily satellite observations of cloud cover have been used in order to calculate the mean seasonal cloud distribution over Europe and the Atlantic for the period December 1967 - November 1970. The main features are discussed in respect to orographic effects, thermal stability, and synoptic situations. For 1969 the correlation coefficients were calculated between cloud cover and surface pressure field. Normally the signs are negative over the continent and negative over the western Atlantic. The amount of the correlation coefficients vary with the seasons and the synoptic situation.
