Using high-emission-coating and adiabatic auxiliary walls leads to a lower energy consumption in rolling mill reheating furnaces. The requirements for the application and the optimum utilization of these measures were determined. As far as possible this was proven by operational tests. The results of the mathematical simulations and the operational trials are in good agreement with the accumulated operational experiences. A lot of important hints could be derived which enable an optimum application and transfer of the results to other terms and plants.
