Still residue of fractionation of products of 2-ethylhexanol synthesis from butyl aldehyde (VKP) is an effective substitute for acutely scarce lighting kerosene and the expensive reagent T-80 used in graphite flotation. High flotation activity and selectivity of the reagent VKP were found in coal flotation also. The reagent is a mobile liquid yellow to brown in color. The flash point is below 70 degree C, the solidification point is not higher than 30 degree C. The structural-group composition of the reagent VKP was studied by IR spectroscopy on a Specord two-beam infrared spectrograph in the wavelength range 2. 5-25 mu m (4000-500 cm** minus **1).
