摘要
A new processing technique has been developed for the fabrication of Supertwist Birefringence Effect (SBE) displays using commercially available polyimide materials. The GEC Hirst Research Centre demonstrated a 95 multiplied by 107 multiplied by 19mm backlit display with a 75 multiplied by 86mm viewing area containing 160 multiplied by 230 pixels. This display was developed for a military application where space limitations were stringent and where low power consumption was required. The operating temperature range is minus 40 degree C to plus 50 degree C. Tilting molecules in a supertwist LCD turns out to improve the viewing angle.
