The paper examines statistically the accuracy of the Engineering News and other pile-driving formulas, and recommends another for general use. To investigate the accuracy of selected pile-driving formulas, the calculated pile capacity compared statistically with that measured by a field load test carried to failure. An improved pile-driving formula which fits the regression line for each pile type studied, or for the average of all pile types, is obtained by using the results presented.
