Generator of rectangular high-voltage power pulses of adjustable amplitude and duration is described. The generator has a wave impedance of 50 OMEGA and a voltage of up to 300 kV without load and is suitable for operation with unmatched loads. The pulse repetition frequency can be adjusted from single pulses to 25 Hz and a pulse duration of up to 50 nsec; the leading edge of the pulse applied to an active load is less than equivalent to 3 nsec. In order to increase the response of the generator to triggering, a high-resistance spiral line is used as decoupling element at the input of the spark gaps. It is therefore possible to obtain a synchronization better than plus or minus 2-3 nsec when the generator is triggered at an operating voltage of 50 kV and a leading edge of approximately equals 50 nsec of the triggering pulse.
