The current monthly report on scientific and technical achievements of the Soviet R&D workers deals with modified thiokol sealants which show improved adhesion to metals. Comparison between three ways of preparing the modified resin showed that addition of the resin in alcoholic solution gave a tensile strength slightly greater than when the powdered resin was added to the thiokil sealant, with a reduced elongation at break. When the mixture of resin and thiokol was heat-treated however, the tensile strength was even greater, without change in elongation, and the adhesion to Dural was 20 percent higher than that of sealants produced by either of the other methods.
