Repassivation potentials, E//R//,//C//R//E//V, for metal/metal crevices of 54 kinds of stainless steels were measured in 3%NaCl solution at 80 degree C. Obtained values are analyzed in relation to chemical compositions into multiple linear regressions for the steel groups which are alpha (ferritic, 15 steels), alpha plus gamma (duplex, 11 steels), gamma (austenitic, 18 steels with Cu less than 0. 4%) and gamma //C//u (austenitic, 8 steels with 0. 9 to approx. 3. 5%Cu). Beneficial effects of Mo are confirmed for all groups except the gamma //C//u steels containing 2-3% Cu, of which E//R//,//C//R//E//V values are kept constant independent of Mo contents. Addition of N up to 0. 2% was beneficial for the duplex steels, but not significant for the austenitic steels in spite of beneficial effects of N reported on pitting potentials.
