In order to study the possibilities of improving the machinability of manganese steels, the authors carried out experimental research to establish the correlation between the thermal and temporal heat treatment parameters, structural transformations, the modification of properties and the machinability properties. The results obtained showed that the machinability index was greatly improved after a high-temperature tempering treatment (annealing at temperatures higher than 500 degree C for 10 hours).
