Thermophysical property and microstructure of Ti-ZrO2 composites

The co-existing region of Ti and ZrO2 has been determined by thermodynamic calculation to determine the synthesis conditions of this composite. Ti-ZrO2 system composites with different compositions sintered under ordinary pressure have been prepared by powder metallurgical method. The effects of titanium volume fraction on the density, the thermophysical properties and the microstructures of this composite have been studied carefully. The correlation between the microstructures and the corresponding properties were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, EDS, TEM and so on. The results of XRD and TEM show that the combining state of phases between Ti and ZrO2 is physical in this composite. The phase composition consists of titanium, tetragonal zirconia and a little monoclinic zirconia.
