Cr(III) and Cr(VI) speciation in environmental samples

A simultaneous preconcentration procedure of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in environmental samples using a liquid anion exchange resin and a cation exchange resin was applied. There is a good agreement between total chromium values and the summations of the Cr(III) and Cr(VI). The recovery study was quantitative. For Cr(III) the recovery was found to be 95-103% and for Cr(VI) 95-104%. The obtained results are in the ranges of Cr concentrations reported in the literature. A significant fraction is the ionic chromium (III) species. The concentrations for Cr(III) vary from 2,7 to 10,2 μg/l and for Cr(VI) from 0,6 to 1,4 μg/l.
