Cooperation between the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Maine at Orono, and the Fairchild Semiconductor Company, located some 150 miles from Orono in South Portland, Maine, has resulted in the implementation of an M. S. E. E. program for graduate engineers employed by the Fairchild Company. Courses are offered ″in-house″ at Fairchild over a closed-circuit TV talkback system for Orono, supplied by the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. One semester of the degree program is spent in full-time residence on the Orono Campus. The company continues the engineer-student's salary throughout this semester.
