Steel bridges are protected against corrosion by coating. Many of the big variety of coating systems are outlined. Of utmost importance for an efficient protection is the cleaning of the steel surface from dust and bond-impeding contamination. The various options of ground preparation and coating are characterized with regard to the given circumstances. Numerous hints are presented from the author's long experience in this field.
