Metal saving is important problem. Application of corrosion resistant alloys, CRAs, allows to save the metals. Selection of CRAs for producing and transporting the corrosive oil and gas can be complex procedure. Companies with large research facilities typically initiate test program that involves simulating the particular part of field environment under study. Tests are performed under specific conditions to fill gaps in literature data and/or field experience. Guideline diagrams are also applied. However, more detailed testing and analysis is often required in order to make final selection. The diagrams are based on corrosion rates for alloys of less than or equal to 0.05 mm/y and resistance to sulfide stress cracking, SSC, and SCC.
