A review is given of the results of investigating the structural photochemistry of organic luminophores, whose molecules include an endo- or exocyclic O equals N group. The aim of investigations in this field is to study the correlations between the change in molecular structure on photoexcitation and the fluorescent properties of the molecules. The basic method of investigation consists in structural modeling, i. e. , in investigating the properties of purposefully synthesized molecular models, in which the given photochemical or photophysical processes become possible or are eliminated. It is shown that the luminescent properties of molecules including a C equals N bond are decisively determined by the specific features of the photochemical processes characteristic of these molecules.
