This paper is a shortened version of a keynote address delivered at the International Pulp Bleaching Conference in 2000. The objective is to provide vision and goals for the future with consideration given to the chemical, physical and capital cost limitations of current systems and how these can be overcome. Simplification, raw material modifications, process enhancements with additives, catalysts, activators, biotechnology, advanced processing, intensified process conditions, in-line sensors for precise control, and greater mill system process closure will all be facets of tomorrow's fibrelines. What is beyond these technologies?
