摘要
The majority of the characteristics and parameter values of constitutive laws for the continuum mechanical description of solids are governed by micromechanical phenomena. It is a common but usually cumbersome practice to obtain information on a material law and its parameters by performing a series of experiments. In addition to cost and time consuming manipulations such experimental methods often do not yield a fundamental insight into the micromechanical mechanisms responsible for the material behavior. An alternative approach is presented which uses the finite element method for investigating the microstructure of certain materials and for developing models for a computational derivation of the macroscopic (continuum mechanical) description. The present contribution shows the application of such methods to metal matrix composites (MMCs) and phase transforming metals.
