Most existing electrocoating paints require baking temperatures of 350 degree F or higher. The increasing cost and the declining availability of natural gas make the development of lower temperature curing electrocoating systems very urgent business. The paper discusses a catalyst which, in some amino cross-linked anodic electrocoating paints, permits a reduction in cure temperature by 75-100 degree F. Electrocoating tanks using this catalyst have been successfully in operation since about 1975. The cure temperature achieved is about 240-250 degree F.
