BULK POLARIZATION CHARGES IN SEMIINSULATING CADMIUM TELLURIDE CRYSTALS.

It is shown that illumination of metal-semiinsulating crystal-metal structures with light from the fundamental absorption region, directed parallel to the field (light entered through one of the electrical contacts), results in the drag of free carriers of both signs into the bulk of the crystal. The capture of these carriers by impurity levels created a bulk polarization charge located near the electrode opposite to that subjected to illumination and the sign of this charge is the same as that of the illuminated electrode. An explanation of this effect is presented.
