Mathematical Studies of the Consequences of Fires.

For a long time mathematical studies of the consequences of fires for nuclear power plants have been sporadically discussed outside of the corresponding licensing procedures. Therefore the working group 'Principles of Fire Protection in Nuclear Power Plants' of the VGB Technische Vereinigung der Grosskraftwerksbetreiber eV expressed its opinion on this subject. Due to the fire protection measures and equipment now realized in nuclear power plants no necessity to perform such calculation exists. The mathematical methods for such investigations which now are available are not adequate for complex problems and could only be used for supplementary investigations in very simple ranges of application.
