摘要：
A method for finding an optimal piecewise-linear approximation to a specified function has been described in a recent paper. The method employs an evolutionary random search technique as one of the minimization steps. A new method is described which converges more rapidly than the random search algorithm. The method utilizes a simple, adaptive, steepest descent algorithm. Furthermore, it is shown that the gradient required in the new algorithm can be easily evaluated.
